Improve Renting for Everyone

Landlord Credit Bureau Helps Landlords and Tenants Prosper

Founded in 2012, Landlord Credit Bureau’s mission is to improve the businesses and lives of landlords, property managers and responsible tenants. Frustrated by their own experiences, the founders knew the dynamic between landlords and tenants needed to improve. Today, Landlord Credit Bureau is focused on increasing revenue for landlords, rewarding responsible tenants and reducing risk for both.

Landlord Credit Bureau’s powerful reporting platform empowers landlords to motivate and reward responsible tenant behaviour. Tenants are able to build a positive Rental Record with LCB while using their largest monthly expense to build credit.

The signature Tenant Database paired with persuasive features like monthly credit reporting help responsible tenants stand out and improve their credit. Less desirable behaviour such as late payments, debts owed, or property damages can now be reported to ensure accountability.

Established by a retired RCMP officer who specialized in fraud prevention and a former corporate lawyer turned technology entrepreneur, Landlord Credit Bureau complies with, and in several instances has worked to exceed, the protection requirements for tenants under governing legislation. LCB operates a Reporting Agency in Canada and the US, helping both landlords and tenants prosper.

Rent can now count towards your credit score - for better or worse

When Zachary Killam was a renter years ago, he found it strange that all his rent payments counted for nothing on his credit score.

Today, Killam is doing something about it. As CEO of the for-profit Landlord Credit Bureau (LCB), he inked a deal with credit rating agency Equifax that will allow tenants to have their rent payments count towards their credit score.

Getting setup on the program was very easy, and when we reviewed my credit report after the first month of setting it up my credit score had increased 37 points. I was shocked it would have such a positive impact on my credit score in such a short amount of time.

My existing tenants are excited to hear that their biggest expense each month (rent) will now be reflected in their credit report. Likewise, they are aware of the consequences if they don't pay future rent on time.

A few months ago we had a landlord hire us as their PM company. Their tenants were continually late with rent and advised her they could not pay until the 18th. After signing them up for LCB rent came early last month and this month ... worked for us!

We had over $140k of bad debt, that we pretty well had given up on. Within a couple of months we collected on debts that will pay our LCB for the next 5 years. I'm looking towards the day all landlords are using LCB.

I think that the LCB offers an excellent service to help struggling landlords find and keep great tenants, avoid the wrong tenants, and encourage mediocre tenants to become good ones.

I add the Lease Clauses to every new application. All my tenants know I report rent payments to LCB and understand this can help them with future credit needs.

My landlord signed me up which I am happy about. I never knew it even existed which I’m happy it does since my credit was average. Knowing it would help me grow it would be amazing. I’ve seen an increase since they have been reporting. I’m extremely comfortable with how they went and asked me about it.

I inform my tenants in the application and on their lease that I use the services of the LCB. Just doing that has helped me weed out bad tenants and has helped 2 of my tenants purchase their own homes with their good credit history. Win-win.

This is a fantastic value-added tool that we're excited to be using. As property managers, it helps to reduce our risk but the bonus is that our clients and our tenants gain just as much from it as we do.
